Welcome to

CTAC2004

The 12th Biennial Computational Techniques and Applications Conference

27 September - 1 October 2004

The University of Melbourne
Victoria
Australia

Venue

CTAC 2004 will be held at the University of Melbourne. It is one of the premier universities in Australia and has recently celebrated its 150 year anniversary.

Melbourne enjoys early spring weather in September. The temperature ranges between 48 to 63( °F) 9 to 17( °C), with warm often windy but sunny afternoons, although weather conditions can be variable.

The Conference Dinner will be held at University House. This heritage-listed building has been extended and converted into a social and function centre renowned for its fine food and extensive wine cellar.

A welcoming reception will be held on Sunday 26 September at Rydges Carlton Hotel (**Please note change of venue from St Mary's College), located at 701 Swanston Street, Carlton, where registration will begin for the conference.

The Conference will be held in the historic Old Arts Building (Building 140 Grid Ref. G 6 on the campus map)
Architecturally the building draws its inspiration from the first University building, the Old Quadrangle, begun in 1854. "It forms a visual unit with the Old Quadrangle by using similar stylistic details and the distinctive tower of Old Arts recalls the intention to include just such a tower as part of the unbuilt south wing of the Old Quadrangle."
The last stone building erected in the University, the Old Arts Building was designed in 1919 by Mr La Gerche who was then Assistant Architect, Public Works Department. The building - notable for its spaciousness, tiered lecture theatres and impressive clock tower - was completed at a cost of £71,000 and opened in 1924. Mr La Gerche also designed the Agriculture School at the University and may have designed other University buildings around this time.

Workshops will be held in the ICT Building, 111 Barry Street (Grid Ref: P6 on the campus map).

Delegates will be able to access email and the internet from:
Large Lab, Room G70, Richard Berry Building (Mathematics and Statistics), cnr Swanson St. and Monash Rd. (opposite Faraday St.) The Lab contains 50 machines running Windows 2000. Delegates will not be able to connect their laptops in this lab but can save material to personal USB memory stick.
