
Sex Offender Assessment and Treatment
- A Contemporary Approach

A two day workshop aimed at professionals with a background in treating sex offenders and sponsored by the Psychosexual Treatment Program of the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health. The workshop will be held at the Department of Criminology, The University of Melbourne.
Day 1 - Professor Bill Marshall - Queens University, Canada
Themes:
Intimacy, empathy
and attachment issues in working with sex offenders.
Dr Marshall is an internationally renowned researcher and expert in the treatment of sex offenders. He has published widely and has developed a number of treatment programs.
Day 2 - Dr Tony Ward, Assoc. Professor, The University of Melbourne, Dr Michele Pathé FRANZCP, Dr Joseph Lee Ph.D, Chris Drake M.Clin Psych., Pamela Nathan M.Clin. Psych.
Themes:
Managing
denial and cognitive distortions; Pharmacological interventions; A self regulation
model of relapse prevention; and a panel discussion exploring
future issues in relation sex offender assessment and treatment.
Cost of the workshop is AUD$180.00 (concessional rate $135.00) or AUD$110.00 for single day attendance. Workshop costs include GST. Lunch, morning and afternoon tea will be provided. The Australian Psychological Society - PD points pending.
