The University of Melbourne Forensic Psychology program will be running a one-day workshop on Contemporary Issues in Forensic Assessment in February 2001. The course will be conducted by Professor Norman Poythress, a world authority on the psychological assessment of offenders and the author of a key text in the area. This session will provide participants with a comprehensive over-view of new methodologies for developing, implementing and evaluating prisoner reentry programs and polices that serve to reduce prison populations, costs, failure on parole supervision and recidivism. The session will be presented by Professor James Austin, Director of the Institute on Crime, Justice and Corrections at the George Washington University. Dr. Austin's most recent book, Its About Time: America's Imprisonment Binge, (3rd edition) was published this year (co-authored with Dr. John Irwin).
