Welcome to the Conference on Stochastic Modelling of Complex Systems, to be held from July 10-16 2005 on sunny Daydream Island, Queensland (please click here for a map). The Conference is an event organised and sponsored by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems (MASCOS). The Australian 4th National Symposium on Financial Mathematics will be an organic part of the Conference.

In accordance with the MASCOS mission, the goal of the Conference is to stimulate research activity in mathematial and statistical modelling of complex systems, and reinforce the importance of mathematics and statistics across the spectrum of Australia's scientific and technological development. Several sessions of the Conference will be devoted to applied research that could be of interest for Australian industry.

One of the conference sessions will be dedicated to the 80th birthday of Professor Joe Gani.

The program will consist of one-hour lectures delivered by invited speakers, thirty-minute contributed talks by participants (PhD students will be given an opportunity to give 15-minute talks) on various topics related to stochastic models for complex systems and their applications.

Topics of the conference include, but are not limited to:
mathematical and statistical foundations of complex systems; stochastic modelling; theory of random processes; Markov processes and related models; Monte Carlo methods; stochastic networks; discrete random processes and randomised algorithms; applications to telecommunications; applications to transport industry; applications to supply chain management; modelling in biology and medicine etc.

The list of confirmed invited speakers is here.

The programme committee of the conference includes: Soren Asmussen (Aarhus), Kostya Borovkov (Melbourne), Tim Brown (Canberra), Louis Chen (Singapore), Daniel Dufresne (Melbourne), Peter Hall (Canberra), Chris Heyde (Canberra), Victor Korotkich (Mackay), Yoshio Miyahara (Nagoya), Alex Novikov (Sydney), Eckhard Platen (Sydney), Phil Pollett (Brisbane), Peter Taylor (Melbourne), Aihua Xia (Melbourne).

The Chairs of the organising committees are Kostya Borovkov (SMOCS05) and Eckhard Platen (Australian 4th national Symposium on Financial Mathematics).
